Providence Fireworks

I decided THIS was going to be the year I was going to try to photograph our neighborhood fireworks.  It was even more fun than I thought it would be.  And the images aren't bad for my first try.  The first one is my favorite!

We love that we can walk down to the fireworks, which are shot off right by Providence Lake, see an awesome show, then walk home without having to sit in any traffic!

Yummilicious

The kids and I met with some photography friends for frozen yogurt at Yummilicious in Richardson, and boy was it yummy!  Despite being the yogurt queen at home, Evie won't even try the "frozen" kind, so we stopped at McDonald's beforehand and got her a chocolate chip cookie.

The kids ran through the little splash fountains they have outside until they were soaked to the bone.  We had a looong drive home, so we made it more fun by stopping by one of my old houses on the way.  That led to a discussion about what Andrew was like as a little boy, stories that I won't retell here, for all the world to read.  Let's just say, in Sam and Evie's eyes, he's a legend!

Red, White & Blue

Another red, white and blue photo session at our beloved Chestnut Square.  We were supposed to play there with our photography friends, but it ended up just being me and the kids.

The kids hopscotched, Sam searched for his cat friend, Chester, and Evie played with a stick, like a real pioneer girl!  That kid has the best imagination!

Happy Fourth of July!

Ft. Worth Friday

Brian and I sat on the porch one beautiful Saturday morning this past spring, trying to decide what to do on his day off.  Neither of us really wanted to go to Denton or McKinney, since we do that a lot, so we decided to spend the day in Ft. Worth.  And we lucked out that day because there was an art show right downtown that we didn't know was planned until we got there!

We also stopped by the JFK memorial, where President Kennedy gave an impromptu speech to Ft. Worth residents before heading to Dallas...on the morning of November 22, 1963.

We walked around the art festival, had a pizza lunch, then walked around some more.  Evie was a little confused and kept asking when we would go back to the hotel, since the last time we were in Ft. Worth we stayed overnight.  But we left with balloon animals, so that made up for it!

Frisco Science Museum

Gram took the kids and I to the Frisco Science Museum and we had a blast!  So many of the activities and experiments had to do with energy, which Sam and Brian have been talking about a lot this summer, so this was the perfect tie-in!

There was plenty for Evie to do, too; lots of different kinds of blocks and other building materials.  And she could run around and try different things without us being right on top of her.

It was the perfect way to spend the afternoon on a very hot and humid day.  I'm sure we'll visit again soon!

Lavendar Festival

Brian and I took the kids up to Lavender Ridge Farm in Gainsville for the festival they have each year at the beginning of summer.  The last time I was there, Sam was about two and we spent the day clipping stalks of lavender and exploring the farm.  There wasn't really enough lavender on the bushes to cut any that day, but there was plenty of other interesting things to see.

We browsed the antiques, found our favorite homemade soap vendor who we'd first discovered at the Denton Market, and looked at each and every animal several times over.

Sam really loved the birds and the chickens and Evie liked the koi fish in the fountain.  The most unusual animals there that day were the alpacas.  It was a mom and her baby and they made the funniest sound.  They have huge eyes and fluffy fur.  We got to feel some of their wool after it's shorn and see how it looks as the yarn in sweaters, hats, and scarves (which were also for sale on the farm!)

I just like photographing the farm; finding little things that catch my eye.  It had changed a little bit since I was there last, which gave me knew things to snap!  Here's a link to the post I did back in 2011 when Sam and I visited Lavender Ridge together: Lavender Ridge June 2011
