Books on Mommy's Bed

It started out as a great way to end the day.

Each night, twenty minutes or so before bedtime, Sam and I, (and sometimes Daddy, too) would gather up binkie, all three blankies and a basket of library books and cuddle up in my bed and read.  We even call it "Books On Mommy's Bed".  Much more comfortable than reading in the rocking chair in Sam's room!  Unlike many activities we attempt throughout the day, Sam never needs convincing to go read with me and in fact, often asks for it on his own.

Lately though, Books on Mommy's Bed has turned into

Roll Around and Be Wild on Mommy's Bed

, all the while totally ignoring the story I'm trying to read.  Not cool, Samuel.  Not. Cool.

Something to Do

Sam and I were looking for something to do. Even though it was a SUPER HOT day, we didn't want to just be inside, walking around a mall or grocery store. So we headed to Mama's old neighborhood where she lived back in the day when Sophie was her only baby! We enjoyed a (hot) walk, the pond, two fountains, some birds, an impromptu photo shoot, and then, of course, some yogurt. We also hopped on over to the bookstore and had a great time running amuck through the children's section. Sam even waddled smack-dab into a rack of books - the Klutz brand of books, no less! We were exhausted and sweaty by the time we got home, but we'd accomplished our goal - we'd found something to do!

Wednesdates

Sam and I have a standing date on Wednesdays. After he wakes up from his morning nap, we head on down to the Frisco Library on the square for their weekly storytime program called "Babies and Books". It's very well done with a weekly theme, songs, a board book story, instruments and even some sign language instruction!

After the program, Sam and I always check out a thousand board books that a thousand other kids have slobbered on that I lug around for a week until it's time to do it again. It's worth it though! It's a very nice library with lots and lots of board books, even more children's books, and great children's music CDs . And, we're lucky that we only have to be a Texas resident to use it, since we don't actually live in Frisco.

Enjoy these photos of my little bookworm and the place where you can always find us on a Wednesday, rain or shine.
