Sage
Well, this was a fairly lucky shot! I was sitting on the patio, looking at the little sprouting seeds in Sam's veggie garden, when Evie leaned over to smell our herbs. I had my camera in my lap and snapped as fast as I could. I wonder if I could get her to do it again, she looks so sweet.
Water Slide
Evelyn had the time of her life playing in her little pool yesterday. I put her birthday slide in there and she went down that thing continuously for over an hour. I have so many pictures of her laughing as she hit the water that it was hard to choose which ones to share. I think this set tells the story perfectly - this is one happy kid!
Dishes
Not only does she sweep, folks, she empties the diswasher, too. The minute she hears me pull down the door, she stops whatever she's doing and makes a bee-line for the kitchen. She gets so excited! I pull out the steak knives, paring knives and flatware knives and she immediately starts in on the remaining silverware. She knows all the drawers and cabinets and where everything goes. I never showed her the measuring cup drawer or the cabinet where we keep the coffee drip cone, but somehow she knows! Such a smart and helpful little girl. Mommy's little shadow!
Thanks, Evelyn! What would I do without your help?
Nervousth
It's official - Sam's registered for Kindergarten. We've been to the school three times now; twice for some mini-orientations and another to drop off registration paperwork. He's always excited to go and in a good mood when we leave, but has also mentioned each time that he's a little "ner-vousth" about going to Kindergarten. I'll bet that when the big day arrives that feeling will last about five minutes. :)
The Coolest
Big brothers think of the coolest stuff to do. While I was cleaning up the breakfast dishes one morning last week I heard a crazy cackle coming from my room. Sam had taken every pillow in the house and made a giant pillow bed on the floor of my bedroom and, to Evie, it was the greatest thing she had ever seen. She rolled and flopped and cackled on that thing for the longest time and later on that day took a whopper of a nap! Thank you Sam!
Six a.m. Dance Party
This young lady woke me up at six in the morning wanting to dance. As soon as I picked her up out of her crib she bopped her little head, pointed to the living room and said "dah? dah?".
I can beam kids' dance videos to the television through an app on my phone. She loves it and it's hilarious to watch her groove to the beat, but this six a.m. dance party made for a very long day.
A Different Park
These were taken quite a while ago. My computer's been acting up, so it's been difficult to both edit and blog. Sometimes we drive to this park on the north side of the neighborhood when we get bored with the park across the street from our house. Evie's happy anywhere as long as there are swings, and Sam likes the unusual equipment here. He was proud of himself for figuring out how to balance on this spinning circle.
Playtime
Just some snaps from a recent chilly, overcast morning. We've had a lot of those lately, it seems. She enjoyed her room that day, for sure. See that bruise? It's hard to miss; it's a big one. She fell against the kitchen cabinets, basically from a standing position. Not sure how it happened, but it left a nasty mark on that chubby widdle cheek.
Five
A while back I took Sam out for some five-year photos. It took half a bag of goldfish to keep Evie entertained in her stroller, but Sam had a blast. He came up with the poses for photos 1 and 3 and he chose the location for the last image (the one spot I
didn't
want to shoot in, go figure). Good thing he's got ideas because I do
not
like posing people, especially my own little people! But he knew what he wanted, so we went with it. I'm going to go out on a limb and say not many five-year olds will sit for this many shots, and I bet even fewer will give creative input. He's an interesting little man.
When I showed him the last image, he was very excited. "I love it!" he said. I told him we'd have to print it and hang it somewhere. He smiled and said, "Okay. Just please don't make it gray!" Guess he doesn't share my love of black-and-white photography. ;)
Happy Five, Sam!
Stripes and Polkadots
Just some pictures of my two, doing their thing after breakfast. Sam's playing Magic School Bus Dinosaurs on his new Leapster, and Evelyn's a tornado of activity, swirling all around him. Between preschool, playdates and running errands our mornings are often quite busy. Sometimes it's nice to just take it easy and play on the couch in our jammies.
Forks
This silly girl loves forks - and spoons - but mostly forks. It's hard to watch her use a fork, at first, because you're so afraid she's going to poke herself. But then you quickly realize she knows what she's doing - she's very good.
Using a fork is so fun, in fact, that she now insists on having one for all meals - Cheerios included. And if the little buggers won't stay on the fork on their own, she just takes each one and sticks it on the tines until she's got enough for a mouthful. It takes a while to finish breakfast, but that's okay!
Whispies
I took this photo back in January. These whispies are now curls. Everyone comments on them when we're out. "Did you have curls?" they ask.
I know the first time I trim her hair they'll be gone. For now, they're just as sweet as can be.
