Weekend, Part 2

I'm one lucky Mommy. Despite being exhausted from helping me all night with a fussy Samuel, Brian was up at 8:00, ready to make my first Mother's Day special. When I walked into the kitchen, there were pretty pink flowers on the table, which was set for breakfast, a card from each of my guys, a present from Brian (a journal), a framed photo of Sam with his Mother's Day sign, and a sweet letter from Sam. After our special dairy-free breakfast (fancy scrambled eggs with mushrooms and tomatoes and waffles with peanut butter), we got dressed and made our way to Granny Nell's for Sam's first visit to Duncanville. We all had fun visiting, exchanging gifts and playing with Baby Sam.

Unfortunately, Brian had to work later that evening, but Sam and I still had fun with Gram, Pops and Uncle Andrew, who stopped by for a visit. Gram and Pops helped with Sam's bath for the first time which was interesting to say the least. I forgot to warn Pops that the water that comes out of the vegetable sprayer is pretty cold at first, and instead told him to spray Sam's head while I get the shampoo out. Boy can Sam can get red when he holds his breath and screams! He had a tough time recovering from that bath.

Gram and Pops gave me a couple of special First Mother's Day gifts. Gram found a book about Mommies for Sam and I to read together, and Pops gave me a Willow Tree angel holding a litte baby bird, just hatched from his egg. Doesn't get more perfect than that, does it?
Thanks to everyone for a special Mommy's Day. :)

Weekend, Part 1

Samuel got to meet another aunt and uncle last Saturday!Uncle Bill and Aunt Bell stopped by, along with Hollie and Wayne. They were visiting from Hot Springs, Arkansas. It was their first time to see Sam in person. We had a great time visiting and watching Sam sleep and play. It's always good to see them and we wish they lived closer!

Later that night Sam met some special friends of Gram and Pops. "Supper Club", family friends for more than 30 years that met in the beginning years of Prestonwood Baptist, threw Sam a baby shower. He got lots of sweet, creative gifts, one of which was his big-boy rocking chair. As you can see, he's not quite into it yet, but of course, he can't sit up, even with Gram offering her support. I'm sure before long he'll be rocking in it, "reading" his favorite books to Mommy and Daddy.

It was a special Saturday - Sam is one lucky guy!

Slow Down

Slow down, buddy. You're growing too fast.

Thursday was a tough day for Mommy. I had a bit of a teary morning. Sam was fine, but while he played in his crib I finally attended to a chore I had put off for a couple of weeks...I folded up and put away some of Sam's newborn clothes. It was kind of sad, boxing up his tiny little pants and onesies, the very first things my very first ever wore. I know, I know, he's supposed to grow. It's a good thing. And we have to make room for all the bigger, even cuter outfits he can now fit into. But still. Fortunately he's still wearing his first round of jammies. It's going to be tough giving those up - I'm definitely not ready for that.

Then, as if that wasn't enough for Mommy to deal with, we used up the last of the newborn diapers that day and had to break open the package of size 2 diapers. They fit so much better, too. It was another change that was probably a little overdue.

My baby's going to be shaving and wearing cologne before I know it, isn't he?

Seeing Double

Sam is a popular guy.

He's had several special visitors in the last week. First came cousins Hollie and Wayne...Hollie was so snuggly, Sam went right to sleep in her arms.

Then Jean and Alvin stopped by. Jean loved Sam's little feet, and was willing to risk missing out on a piece of Babe's pie to be just to be able to rock him a little bit longer.

And then there was someone who looks a lot

like

Granny Nell, but it wasn't Granny, it was Aunt Dell! Did you think you were seeing double Sam? Just wait till Aunt Bell comes for a visit! Unfortunately, the only picture I got of Aunt Dell was one of Puppy Sophie snuggling up to her, desperate for attention.

More visitors to come on Easter Sunday...I wonder if the Easter Bunny will be one of them?

Samuel's New Friends

Today was a big day for Samuel - not only did he turn 3 weeks old, he

spent time with two new friends -

Mrs. Roberson and Mrs. Ellis. They are special friends of mine who stopped by for the afternoon to snuggle and cuddle with baby Sam.

They also brought a really nice, fancy lunch; quiche, salad and desserts. It was so yummy! We had lots of fun visiting and playing with Samuel. They are experienced Moms who always have lots of good advice, and I had lots of new-mommy questions to ask them. We finished off the afternoon with a nice walk around the neighborhood.

It felt good to get out of the house!

I could tell that Sam liked his new friends (and possible future-teachers!) because he slept almost the entire time they were holding him in their arms. They know all the tricks!

Thanks for stopping by today Melanie and Diana! I miss seeing you guys every day. Samuel and I will have you back soon!

As We Enter Week Three

Here are a few sweet shots from Samuel's second week. He's had another couple of baths and continues to love to snuggle with Mommy and Daddy on the couch or in the rocker. His favorite activity seems to be to practice making faces - smiling, frowning and scowling, often going from one expression to another in a matter of seconds. He's working on this mischeivious-looking one-sided smile, which makes it look like he's up to something!

He's such a good baby - he very rarely cries. "

Is this a good indication of what his personality will be?"

we often wonder aloud. My parents remind us that I talked non-stop until the age of 5, and Andrew was a calm, quiet baby so, based on that information, I'm not sure we can accurately predict his future personality based on his behaviors these first 2 weeks... ;)

Today is the first day of his third week. His first official check-up with his pediatrician is Wednesday. We might also have a visitor or two this week. Other than that, this week will be much like the last week - all about eating and sleeping, eating and sleeping!
