Weekend, Part 2
I'm one lucky Mommy. Despite being exhausted from helping me all night with a fussy Samuel, Brian was up at 8:00, ready to make my first Mother's Day special.
Gram and Pops gave me a couple of special First Mother's Day gifts. Gram found a book about Mommies for Sam and I to read together, and Pops gave me a Willow Tree angel holding a litte baby bird, just hatched from his egg. Doesn't get more perfect than that, does it?

Weekend, Part 1
Later that night Sam met some special friends of Gram and Pops. "Supper Club", family friends for more than 30 years that met in the beginning years of Prestonwood Baptist, threw Sam a baby shower. He got lots of sweet, creative gifts, one of which was his big-boy rocking chair. As you can see, he's not quite into it yet, but of course, he can't sit up, even with Gram offering her support. I'm sure before long he'll be rocking in it, "reading" his favorite books to Mommy and Daddy.
It was a special Saturday - Sam is one lucky guy!
Slow Down
Slow down, buddy. You're growing too fast.
Thursday was a tough day for Mommy. I had a bit of a teary morning. Sam was fine, but while he played in his crib I finally attended to a chore I had put off for a couple of weeks...I folded up and put away some of Sam's newborn clothes. It was kind of sad, boxing up his tiny little pants and onesies, the very first things my very first ever wore. I know, I know, he's supposed to grow. It's a good thing. And we have to make room for all the bigger, even cuter outfits he can now fit into. But still. Fortunately he's still wearing his first round of jammies. It's going to be tough giving those up - I'm definitely not ready for that.
Then, as if that wasn't enough for Mommy to deal with, we used up the last of the newborn diapers that day and had to break open the package of size 2 diapers. They fit so much better, too. It was another change that was probably a little overdue.
My baby's going to be shaving and wearing cologne before I know it, isn't he?
Cheeks
I probably kiss these cheeks a thousand times a day.
Sam's 10 weeks old now. He had his 2 month check-up earlier this week. He was 12 pounds 7 ounces, 23 1/2 inches long, and his head was 16 inches around. Dr. G. saw his stats and asked "What are you feeding this boy!", joking of course. He got a shot in each leg and an oral vaccine. It was a tiring day for us all, but we were glad to find out he is doing well. He's old enough now for us to start working on "routines", which will hopefully lead into a more consistent daily schedule. I think it's going to be harder than it sounds.
I've taken lots of photos of our Samuel lately. He's just so darn cute. Click on the link to view the Flickr slideshow and enjoy!

Sam's Workout
Samuel had fun playing with his baby gym at Gram and Pops' house on Easter Sunday. We say he's "working-out".
Watch him go!
(turn up your volume if you wish to hear one of Samuel's favorite songs)
set to music: "One Day, Two Days, Three Days Old" by Woodie Guthrie, sung by Elizabeth Mitchell
Hippity Hoppity
Some-bunny
had tons of fun at his first Easter celebration!
Gram and Pops made it extra special, as always. They cooked a delicious brunch casserole and Great-Grandma Jackie and Millie brought their famous sticky buns! Since he's too little for chocolate (bummer), Gram and Pops gave Samuel such a nice Easter treat ...a pop-up Beatrix Potter Peter Rabbit book and a cd of nursery rhymes sung in the jazz style - it's funky! Even Sophie was visited by the Easter bunny (in this case, the Easter-Gram). It was fun to see some of our old Easter decorations we put out when I was little. This day was also special for Sam because he got to meet some more family - my Uncle Brad, Aunt Teresa and Cousin David. We had fun catching up and watching Samuel play. They thought Samuel was the cutest little guy!
After they left, Mom and I searched through some old photos, looking for one of Uncle Brad with me when I was little. We found a few and I've posted them below. We're already looking forward to next Easter - maybe it will include a visit to see the Easter Bunny!
Seeing Double
Sam is a popular guy.
He's had several special visitors in the last week. First came cousins Hollie and Wayne...Hollie was so snuggly, Sam went right to sleep in her arms.
Then Jean and Alvin stopped by. Jean loved Sam's little feet, and was willing to risk missing out on a piece of Babe's pie to be just to be able to rock him a little bit longer.
And then there was someone who looks a lot
like
Granny Nell, but it wasn't Granny, it was Aunt Dell! Did you think you were seeing double Sam? Just wait till Aunt Bell comes for a visit! Unfortunately, the only picture I got of Aunt Dell was one of Puppy Sophie snuggling up to her, desperate for attention.
More visitors to come on Easter Sunday...I wonder if the Easter Bunny will be one of them?
Just Hangin' Out
I know. It's sad. I haven't posted in a while.
We've been a little busy around here, trying out a new feeding schedule. Samuel's had a little bit of an upset tummy that we've been trying to get back on track, and the constant feedings we were doing there for a while made the days fly by.
Fortunately, he's already feeling better. He's smiling a lot and getting better at holding up his head. We've been having lots of fun spending time together. We try to take a walk every day, as long as the weather is cooperating, and we've bought a couple of new cds that we like to snuggle and sing to. The other day the light coming through the window was just right, and Sam was in a great mood, so he and I had a little impromptu "photo shoot". I got some great shots, as you can see! I hope to post some video soon. I've got some footage, I just need to get it on here. I wonder why I can't find the time?! :)

Off-The-Charts
He just keeps on growing...
Samuel had his one-month check-up today. Doctor G. was very pleased with his health and his growth. He's now 9 pounds, 15 ounces (the nurse weighed him twice because she thought that couldn't be right!), has a head circumfrence of 15.3 (that's in the
90th
percentile) and is 21.8 inches long (80th percentile). One nurse commented on how long he looked, laying in Daddy's arms - she said he looks like a 2-month-old! Wonder if this means he'll be tall like Daddy. He had to have a vaccine shot today, and screamed like crazy. But only for a short while. Once Daddy picked him up he was all better. I think his neat-o Tweety Bird band-aid helped make things better too.

Samuel's New Friends
Today was a big day for Samuel - not only did he turn 3 weeks old, he
spent time with two new friends -
Mrs. Roberson and Mrs. Ellis. They are special friends of mine who stopped by for the afternoon to snuggle and cuddle with baby Sam.
They also brought a really nice, fancy lunch; quiche, salad and desserts. It was so yummy! We had lots of fun visiting and playing with Samuel. They are experienced Moms who always have lots of good advice, and I had lots of new-mommy questions to ask them. We finished off the afternoon with a nice walk around the neighborhood.
It felt good to get out of the house!
I could tell that Sam liked his new friends (and possible future-teachers!) because he slept almost the entire time they were holding him in their arms. They know all the tricks!
Thanks for stopping by today Melanie and Diana! I miss seeing you guys every day. Samuel and I will have you back soon!

Chunky Monkey
Samuel had his 2-week check up today. His doctor was super pleased at how much weight he had gained, and Mommy was super relieved! Samuel had
lost 10% of his birth weight by the day we were discharged from the hospital, taking him from 8 lbs 4 oz down to 7 lbs 7oz, which was a little bit of a concern. He got a little dehydrated as well once we were home. We were told that this might be due to the fact that he was born "tongue-tied" which was making feeding difficult.
A little snip-snip of the tongue at the doctor's office and here we are, two weeks later, and Samuel has more than gained his birth weight back - he's now 8 lbs 11 oz! His head is almost 1 inch larger in diameter and he's grown 1 inch for a grand total of 21 inches! What a big boy!

As We Enter Week Three
Here are a few sweet shots from Samuel's second week. He's had another couple of baths and continues to love to snuggle with Mommy and Daddy on the couch or in the rocker. His favorite activity seems to be to practice making faces - smiling, frowning and scowling, often going from one expression to another in a matter of seconds. He's working on this mischeivious-looking one-sided smile, which makes it look like he's up to something!
He's such a good baby - he very rarely cries. "
Is this a good indication of what his personality will be?"
we often wonder aloud. My parents remind us that I talked non-stop until the age of 5, and Andrew was a calm, quiet baby so, based on that information, I'm not sure we can accurately predict his future personality based on his behaviors these first 2 weeks... ;)
Today is the first day of his third week. His first official check-up with his pediatrician is Wednesday. We might also have a visitor or two this week. Other than that, this week will be much like the last week - all about eating and sleeping, eating and sleeping!
*Sara*
